From Uji to Toronto
This September, MATCHA MATCHA welcomes Horii Shichimeien from Uji, Kyoto, for a special three-day collaboration across two locations.
From September 25 to 27, our community can experience Uji tea through a limited collaboration menu, a rare retail collection and an intimate matcha workshop led by the Horii Shichimeien team.

About Horii Shichimeien
Founded in Uji in 1879, Horii Shichimeien brings generations of knowledge to the cultivation, refinement, evaluation and blending of Japanese tea.
As tea growers, merchants and appraisers, their work extends far beyond the familiar images of tea fields and stone mills. Each tea is shaped through careful decisions made throughout its journey, from cultivation and harvesting to refining and blending.
For this collaboration, the Horii Shichimeien team will travel from Uji to Toronto with a special selection of matcha and Japanese tea to share with our community.

Matcha Workshop: The Invisible Craft
On September 26 and 27, the collaboration continues at our new MATCHA MATCHA Studio in Markham.
MATCHA MATCHA Studio is a new space for guided tastings, workshops and classes created to bring our community closer to matcha, its makers and the culture behind every bowl.
For our first Studio experience, the Horii Shichimeien team will lead:
"The Invisible Craft"
Refining, Evaluating and Blending Tea Before the Stone Mill
The workshop looks beyond tea fields and stone milling to explore the largely unseen work that happens in between.
Guests will learn how matcha is refined, evaluated and blended before it reaches the stone mill. The session will also include a guided tasting of three Uji matchas with different backgrounds.
Rather than asking guests to identify one reason behind each flavour, the tasting invites them to observe how differently Uji matchas can express themselves through aroma, taste, texture, aftertaste and overall impression.
The workshop will conclude with a hands-on experience where each guest prepares and enjoys a full bowl of Narino matcha.
